Prisoners would line up to sign image releases, with the promise that I'd give them a small print on my next visit. No matter how many releases I brought with me, I'd run out by the end of the day. Many inmates told me that they would participate only because I was an artist, not a media person. This prisoner wouldn't say why he wanted to be photographed, only that he'd been in a fight.
